Wow!! Has it really been THAT long since I last "blogged"?!? I guess I really have been extra busy with my store and fundraising for the "Ivy's Memorial - Street Rescue" fund. To date we have gotten a total of 20 stray or abandoned cats off the streets. We have them vetted (tested, vaccinated, deflead, dewormed, spayed or neutered, and treated for any other injuries or illnesses they may have), and then adopt them out to loving furever homes. All of that vetting costs a lot of money, so I'm always fundraising at my store. I even have a stuffed toy that looks like me, and another that looks like Ivy, for whom the Ivy's Memorial - Street Rescue fund is now named. We sell those, as well as so many other things, to raise money for the cat rescue fund.
You can visit my Facebook page any time to see all of our fundraiser items: https://www.facebook.com/SammieOurMothersKeepers

I'm a cat! I shouldn't have to work like a dog!
Okay, so maybe I don't work quite as hard as I say I do; but c'mon, I'm sure you can imagine how exhausting it is to simply lay around being THIS adorable all day! And then there's "The Woman" who works for me here at my store; I DO have to "crack the whip" every now and again to keep HER in line...otherwise she starts acting like she OWNS the place!!
Seriously though, I don't have to "crack the whip" much these days to keep "The Woman" busy; it's a busy time right now for people who work with animals, it's the dreaded "kitten season" and there are so many homeless or unwanted litters of kittens this time of year. In fact, "The Woman", who does a little kitty rescue of her own, will soon be picking up a litter of kittens to foster.
As the "Ambassacat" of our own "Street Rescue", I'd like to take this opportunity to ask everyone to please, PLEASE, spay or neuter your pets. And please donate to your local animal rescues if you can; it's the only way they can afford to help the animals they do. I realize that it seems there is always a waiting list for most rescues to help even more animals; but please be patient with them, there is only so much they can do with limited resources and few foster homes, which is why "The Woman" is trying to help out with this litter of kittens, even though our own "Street Rescue" is full too!
So, while you're all out there helping to save the homeless critters for me, I'm going to strenuously roll myself over here and take a wee nap. All this typing has exhausted me!

Changes to our "Give 10" program
Now, 10% of the purchase amount of all of Our Mother's Keepers' regular store merchandise (not including consignment merchandise or fundraising items for other organizations) automatically goes into our "Street Resscue - Ivy's Memorial Fund" (you no longer have to request the 10% donation to the fund). We do still accept and appreciate any additional donations you'd like to make to our fund, which helps rescue homeless cats, vet them, and find them loving adoptive homes (if possible).
As always, 100% if the purchase price of any of OMK's fundraiser items for our "Street Rescue - Ivy's Memorial Fund" also goes to provide vetting for our rescue cats.
Thank you!

She cried today...
Yep. "The Woman" who works for me here at Our Mother's Keepers, she cried today. Now, I've seen her cry a few times out of frustration when someone says mean things to her because she won't pay to have their 30 barn cats "fixed" or take them all to be re-homed (I've been to The Woman's house, and there is barely room for the 10 cats who live there now!!),and I've seen her cry a lot from sadness because she can't rescue every homeless cat she's asked to help (She fundraises ALL the time and sometimes STILL doesn't make enough money to cover the Vet bill of some of the cats she's rescued!!), and I didn't think she'd EVER stop crying when her special-needs rescue cat, Ivy, died (Now that I think about it, she sometimes cries over Ivy even now!!), but I rarely see her cry because of happiness, like she did today. Sure, there have been a few times when I've seen "The Woman" cry out of joy: when someone makes a large donation to her rescue cats, when somebody buys a lot of fundraiser items, when someone donates items for her to sell for the homeless cats she rescues, or when someone simply tells her they appreciate what she does for homeless cats. Today, however, several people made donations: someone donated fundraiser items; someone else donated food, blankets, and even laundry detergent ("The Woman" washes a LOT of cat blankets, especially when she rescues sick cats, and she's had a few of those lately!!); and some other people put money in the fundraiser jar. I think "The Woman" was overwhelmed by the generosity of so many people...and she cried.
Don't tell her (She'll get an inflated ego, and then I won't be able to do a THING with her!!), but I really love "The Woman"...

So. Many. Cats!
"The Woman", who works for me here at Our Mother's Keepers, has been tired and sad lately. She says there are too many homeless cats out there. I think she's done a great job taking in so many homeless cats: she has 5 formerly homeless cats of her own, 3 foster cats still living in her home, plus she just took in a new foster cat with a seriously wounded leg (that makes 9 cats in her house right now, and I know what a small house that is!), then there are the 6 homeless cats she took in, vetted, and adopted out to new homes...and don't forget ME...she took me in when I was a homeless cat! But she says there are more...many, many, many more.
I know "The Woman" is tired from being up most nights with the new foster cat, Bobby, and his wounded leg; she says it's a real mess, and she's not sure it's healing very well. She says fundraising is tiring too; vetting homeless cats is expensive and she has to work hard trying to raise enough money to pay the vets bills for the cats she helps before she finds them new homes...she says she doesn't think she'll ever catch up to the vet bill!
I also know that she's really sad right now too. She's sad about the passing of Ivy, one of her rescue cats, who had a terminal bone disease. Ivy was a homeless kitten, who was born outside and lived under someone's house with her abandoned mother cat. Ivy was a sweet, tiny, lovable cat, and just over a year old; "The Woman" thinks it's sad and cruel that Ivy had such a tragic life, right from the beginning, and that she had to die so young.
I wish I could help "The Woman" feel better. I'm the ''Ambassacat" for her cat rescue fundraising program, "Street Rescue - Ivy's Memorial Fund" (named after her rescue cat Ivy, of course), and I do what I can to help raise money to vet our rescue cats so we can help them find homes. The only other thing I can think of to help is to ask everyone to PLEASE spay and neuter your pets, and do NOT ever abandon them. I can also give "The Woman" head boops.

Am I awesome or what?
Even an exceptionally modest cat such as myself has to admit that, yeah, I AM pretty darn awesome! Just check out my awesomely awesome awesomeness:
As the Ambassador cat (or as I like to be called: "The Ambassacat"), for Our Mother's Keepers' "Street Rescue" program, I now have my very own Facebook page (you should check it out: https://www.facebook.com/SammieOurMothersKeepers ) where we recently hosted an online auction to raise money for the vetting of OMK's latest Street Rescues, Smokey and Tigger.
See?? AWESOME!!!

Because of my extraordinary efforts as Ambassacat...okay, so "The Woman" who works for me here at the store helps out a little bit...we raise money to help homeless cats get off the street and into loving homes, by having them vetted: tested, vaccinated, treated for any parasites, etc., and spayed or neutered. If you would like to help (Hey, I wouldn't have made Ambassacat if I didn't work hard at fund-raising!), you can stop in at my store: Our Mother's Keepers, 85 Water Street, Windsor, NS, to make a donation, or like my page on Facebook to keep up to date with our auctions, draws, and other fund-raising events, and to check out the photos of the cats we've already helped with our program, and any who are currently available for adoption.
Facebooking is exhausting!!
Thank you from a former Street Rescue myself, now a store owner and Ambassacat,

Movin' on up!
Many of you already know my story. At about this time two years ago, I was a homeless cat. Some kind people were feeding me and letting me spend the nights in their shed, but they were not able to take me in, unfortunately. They tried to find out if I had a family, but were unsuccessful in their search, so they tried to find me another home instead. The people at Our Mother's Keepers had fostered other cats in their store, so they took me in and had me tested, vaccinated, and neutered, hoping that I would become their store cat, but willing to at least foster me if I didn't seem to like the store. Perish the thought!
It's now two years later, and I am the best store cat the folks at Our Mother's Keepers could ask for. I actually run this place almost singlehandedly...or singlePAWEDedly, I should say! I've also become rather popular here at the store, and have now set my sights on being an "Ambassador" for stray cats like me. The people who work for me here at OMK have helped have five homeless cats vetted and adopted, and we'd like to help other strays with vetting and finding loving homes too. It takes a lot of time and energy to raise the funds to help these homeless cats, which is why I've generously offered to be OMK's Ambassador for the cause. What can I say? I'm a "giver"!
I even have my own Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/SammieOurMothersKeepers
