Sammie - December 2011
Here's my story:
Hi! My name is “Sammie”. I’m the Our Mother’s Keepers store cat. I showed up out in the country in the late fall (2011), very friendly and loving, but also very malnourished. I used to look into the windows of a particular house with a sad face, wanting to be let in; unfortunately, the people who lived there were not able to take me in. These kind people did feed me and let me sleep in their shed, however, while they tried to find out where I belonged. When no one ever claimed me, the kind people felt certain that I was an abandoned housecat and they began trying to find me a home. No one seemed to want to adopt me either, perhaps because I was not neutered, although I’m a very good cat and never damaged anything. These kind people continued to feed me and let me sleep in their shed, and the kind man even put a heater in the shed for me when the weather got cold. I don’t like the cold, so I was quite happy when, finally, the people from Our Mother’s Keepers offered to take me in, at least for the winter. The OMK people took me to the vet and had me tested, vaccinated, and neutered, and they were so impressed with my good behaviour, they decided to keep me at the store! During the busy Christmas shopping season, I enjoyed greeting the customers and getting lots of attention! Now that I’ve settled in, I like to spend my days lying around, eating, sleeping, eating, and playing with cat toys (I like catnip toys best)!
Please, please, spay and neuter your pets, and don’t ever abandon them outside to fend for themselves. I wouldn’t have survived outside without the kindness of the people who fed and sheltered me and found me a home. Unfortunately, there are many, many others like me who don’t ever get a home, and do not survive. Not everyone can take in someone like me, but you can help us by donating to your local animal rescue groups, shelters, and TNR programs.
Thank you, Sammie...and the OMK family
